Self Care 101: Social Media Cleanse

I’m starting to lose count of the days that I have removed myself from social media. I can guarantee that half of you will not see this blog post because it will not be posted on all social media outlets. I’ve learned a lot about my addiction to social media, such as who really cares about me, and who only looks at it as a popularity contest.

I don’t have fear of missing out anymore (FOMO) because I figure if it’s really important I’ll find out either way. I’m more focused on myself and not about what others are doing every hour of the day. Sure, I miss posting pictures sometimes, but I also don’t miss having to worry about how many likes I’m going to get within an hour.

Have you removed yourself from social media? What have you learned about yourself and others?

Interactive Post of the Week: Where Would You Go?

This is my first of many interactive posts so I can get to know my audience better. I also love to engage with people, so I thought this might be a fun challenge.

Here’s the scenario:

You won the lottery. You have the money to travel anywhere in the world. Where would you go and why? Here’s the catch. You can only give me one destination. Choose wisely.

I would go to Paris, France because of the cultural, art, food and of course Disneyland Paris.

What’s on Your Bucket List?

20190107_221951.jpg

I’ve always made lists. I have lists of random things like “what foods can my pugs eat or not eat.” Whenever I travel, I make a list of everything I need to take with me. I like to write everything down so I have the ability to check each item off.

We all have lists. Many of these lists include grocery lists, daily lists or work reminders. The big question is do you have a bucket list or a list of goals you want to achieve? If you answered no to this question, I would advise you to start making one.  If you are thinking “why do I need to write down my goals or big dreams I can remember them,” trust me you will achieve more once you can physically start marking each item off.

For as long as I can remember, I have made a list of goals for each year. I quickly realized that some of the goals were not attainable at the time. I got discouraged and stopped making yearly goals. Last year, instead of making a list of goals for the entire year, I decided to make a list of goals based off of my age. So for 2018, I created “35 Things to do my 35th Year.” I wrote down 35 things I knew I could achieve in one year. They were as big as traveling to Wyoming and as small as getting my first tattoo. The point is I pushed myself to make these goals happen and they did.

I’ve started my list for “36 Things to do my 36th Year” and I would like to share it with you. It is not officially complete as I’m still deciding on another adventure to take toward the end of the year:

1) Be consistent in my daily life

2) Meditate at the end of the day

3) Keep a gratitude journal

4) Change the way I eat

5) Get a facial

6) Try yoga

7) Try new cardio activities

8) Be able to do pull ups

9) Be able to do sit ups

10) Build family relationships

11) Go on a girl’s trip

12) Higher recognition in my career

13) More clients for Tantalizing and Tangled

14) New T-shirt designs

15) Write more blog posts

16) Write my novel

17) Read my poetry somewhere

18) One new home improvement idea

19) Read one new book a month

How has Mickey Mouse changed your life?

Today we celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday! Let’s all share how this wonderful Mouse has changed our lives.

It’s hard to remember my very first Mickey memory, but if it wasn’t for a little mermaid with a big voice and dreams, I wouldn’t be who I am today.

If it wasn’t for a girl who had her nose in a book and wanted more than just this provincial life, I wouldn’t to be a writer.

Mickey Mouse symbolizes hope, motivation, and achieving all of your dreams. This is how the little Mouse has changed my life.

Self Care Sunday

My life has changed, and it’s gone from zero to sixty within three months. My mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, and my family had to make major life adjustments. Currently, she lives with me some weeks and with my brother on other weeks. You never want to think something bad will happen to one of your parents, but it happened to me. I’ve had to work on self care tremendously these past three months to avoid caregiver burnout. She’s only in the early stages of the disease so she’s still able to care for herself in many areas, but we know it will become harder.
During this new journey in my life, I’ve made it a priority to take care of myself first. The saying “you can’t care for others if you don’t care for yourself first” is very true. I am journaling, mediating and working out like a crazy woman! I am trying to avoid temptation like cookies and wine, but it happens! My best advice to anyone who is trying to handle multiple areas in life is to put yourself first. It is not selfish. You are a priority!
I remember a few years ago, I helped a young coworker balance out her life. I created a list for her and told her to put herself first. Years later she reconnected with me, and told me she still had the list I made for her. She learned to make herself a priority. She went back to school and got a job in the medical field. It is always nice to know when you have an impact on someone’s life.
Always remember-
“Put yourself at the top of your to-do list and everything else will fall into place”
